“Its never been a better time to gain entry into the global market. The services industry is undergoing the same revolution in services as outsourcing.” That was the prediction of David Harrison, Vice-President - Engineering of award winning Freelancer.com, at TiECON Australia 2011 in Sydney.

One of Australia’s online success stories, Freelancer.com – “the eBay of the labour market” - had succeeded in harnessing the enormous pull of global labour. “We are a productivity tool to assist those with a spark of an idea and turn it, in a matter of minutes, onto the page and into reality. Entrepreneurs could now separate or ignore some aspects of what they needed to do,” David said.

Outlining the growth areas for entrepreneurs in emerging and growth industries, he said the future potential lay in those parts of the world that were rapidly connecting to the Internet. Currently, 70% were not connected to the Internet. For example, in Asia, only 20% of people had Internet connections but were connecting at a rapid speed of 600%.

Freelancer.com has the ability to provide the labour in a technical way in areas ranging from engineering to designing a website at a fraction of the cost which translates into half a billion or a billion dollars of savings that can be reinvested into the company to increase other areas of the business.

"Its never been easier (for people) to learn a trade, to upskill themselves, for example, to learn video design via video tutorial. It is far more efficient and cost effective for most tasks to be done overseas. The Internet empowers entrepreneurs to start service organisation," David said.
